Boise, Idaho – Bestbath, a leading manufacturer of universal design and accessible code compliant showers and tubs, has developed a new 60 x 30 shower pan with a side discharge drain for use in multi-family renovation projects when replacing bathtubs with above-floor rough. The new pan eliminates the need for costly drain relocation and improves user safety by reducing the curb height to two inches.
“The 60 x 30 shower pan was designed to make it more convenient to replace bathtubs with above-floor rough found in many multi-family buildings,” said Bill Bridgeman, vice president of commercial sales. “Replacing a bathtub that has an above-floor rough with a shower can be a hassle, often leaving a large curb between the pan and floor. This new model reduces that obstacle, making it easier and safer to use.”
As residents age, they often need to replace a tub with a low-threshold shower. The 60 x 30 pan leaves enough room to use the existing plumbing set-up and the lower curb height allows for easier shower access. It also replaces the common option of tub cutouts, which are placed in the center and often leave grab bars too far away to be used for entry.
The new pan is offered in tile patterns such as Classic, Diamond, RealTile, and Subway. Currently, Bestbath is the only company with above-ground certification from the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO).
